Landing on Djerba: from the airport to Midoun, Houmt Souk and the hotel zone
The island airport is small and friendly — but distances on Djerba deceive. Where the hotels really are, and how transfers work.
Djerba–Zarzis (DJE) is an easy airport: one terminal, short walkways, and you are outside in minutes. The island itself is bigger than it looks — the hotel zone stretches along the north-east coast, up to 30 kilometres from the runway.
Where your hotel actually is
Most resorts cluster in the zone touristique around Midoun; Houmt Souk, the island capital with its souk and fishing port, sits closer to the airport. A private transfer is priced per vehicle to your exact hotel — no island bus loops with twelve stops before yours.
On an island, a fixed price matters twice: there is no competing route, and the meter knows it.
Beyond the beach
Djerbahood’s street art in Erriadh, the whitewashed El Ghriba synagogue, and the pottery workshops of Guellala all sit within a thirty-minute drive. For the Sahara, day trips cross the Roman causeway to Zarzis and on toward Tataouine’s ksour.
Flying out, allow a full hour of margin: the airport is small, but charter waves fill it quickly on rotation days.
